secrets
So I was reading an emerson lit mag (at least I think that is what it was - Gauge issue 9) last night and it had an interesting thing about a project
http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ where people send in postcards with a secret they have on it. I'm going to quote part of the article:
"Secrecy is an active, internal process in which people hide information for fear of the social repercussions with showing personal emotions. The act of keeping secrets causes psychological and health problems; it requires energy. The study explains that when you keep a secret, your mind enters into a continuous cycle. First, secrecy causes suppression, which leads to intrusive thoughts. Constant thoughts about the secret lead to a more extensive effort to suppress the thoughts, which causes the brain to consider the secret again. Telling the secrets that cause suppression relieves the brain and breaks the cycle, allowing for healthier mental processes."
I was going to write about a few of the things that came to mind from having read that article, but I keep getting interrupted so now is not the time. Maybe I'll come back to this later. The problems you have arent usually of your choice but how you deal with them is. For me keeping secrets is a real bad why to go, but being able to let go of a secret is an ultimate type of freedom.
